Question about Wake to Sleep
« on: November 30, 2010, 14:24:08 pm »
Hi there,
My DS will be 8 months old next week and still has NEVER slept through the night *sigh* He does not need to be fed unles he doesn't eat well before going to bed. I have noticed the last few weeks he wakes at 3 and is awake for 1-2 hours and then up frequently after that.  Sunday night I decided to try the Wake to Sleep method.  I set the alarm for 2, went in, stirred him a little and left.  HE did wake around 3:30ish but it was only for about 20 mins and then we did not hear him again until 5 which is really good for him.  Wel last night was a bad night.  He woke on his own at 2 so I didn't get to do wake to sleep.  He was also awake a lot after that. I ended up feeding him at 4 since he had only taken 6 ounces before bed.  He does still use a Paci but we just recently transitioned him from a swaddle and he is starting to find it on his own.  But most of the frequent night wakes at 3, he actually had it in his mouth while crying when I went in.
So my question is, do I continue setting my alarm for 2 and try 3 nights in a row again, or shuold I wait a few nights and see if his pattern has changed?

Thanks so much.  I am willing to try "almost" anything to get a good nights sleep lol

Hi there! What does his routine look like? Is he upset when he wakes? My DS was having long NW about a month ago, so I increased his A time during the day and they stopped.

Hi there,
When he wakes up for a long period, he is usually not upset.  He'll do a little cry and thats it.  If we leave him, he just ends up staying up even longer.

I don't have him on a 4 hour EASY because of feeding issues (we're having lots of problems here lol)

Here is an approximate routine for him but he doesn't sleep through the night so it all depends on what time he wakes

6:30 am - wake
7:00 - milk usually 6 oz here
8:00 - cereal (about 1/4 cup)
9:30 nap - usually 1 - 1 & 1/2 hours
11:00 wake
12:00 6-8 oz - has a cat nap while drinking but wakes almost as soon as done
1:00 - solids 1/3rd of a jar of meat and vegi mix and 1/3rd jar of fruit
2:30 nap apx 1 hour
3:30 wake
4:00 - 4:30 - I try and give about 3-4 oz here becasue he can't make it until his night feed if he's eaten at 12, although last night we did skip this one.  When he does eat here he usually needs to be sleepy
5:00- 3-4 tsp cereal 1/3 far of vegi
he will sometimes have a 20 min nap at 5:30 must only if he didn't nap good during the day
6:30 bath
7:00 night time feed 6-8 oz but falls asleep

Thanks :)
