9 month sleep regression
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:50:13 am »
Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone had any tips on dealing with the 9 month sleep regression? Ds2 is now 10 1/2 months (45 weeks) and has been going through the sleep regression since he hit the 35 week wonder week. I read that the sleep regression encompasses the 35 week and 46 week milestones so hopefully we are closer to the end of this than not but I just wanted to see if anyone had any tips. Ds is ok during the day sleep wise, a little work to get down during his afternoon nap but not too bad and is a bit more of a pain to put to bed but again I just lay him down whenever he pulls up and shh pat and off he goes into dreamland. The problem starts in the night when at a random time (2am,4am,5am) there isn't really a pattern he will wake, pull up, call for me so I go in lay him back down and shh pat for a minute or so until I'm sure he won't just pull straight back up and 10minutes later (usually pretty exactly) he will be the same and this can go on for an hour worst has been 2.5 hrs.

Am I doing the right thing by just waiting it out and suffering or is this method not working and I should try something else? Thanks

I have the exact same problem! My baby is the same age and I'm totally out of ideas. Like you, I have been resettling her each time she wakes because she is crying hard and I dont believe in letting her cry it out. She usually goesback to sleep fairly quickly after I lie her down (she's always sitting up when I go in) and sit on a chair so she knows I haven't left her (if I just walk out she gets very upset). But she could wake up like this 8 times a night! I guess Im trying to use the Gradual Withdrawl method but maybe I'mdoing something wrong? It has been over 2 weeks now. She has up to now been a good sleeper. I wonder if the fact she has recently learned to crawl and I've gone back to work a factor? She has been teething too but is in great form during the day. Would really appreciate any suggestions  :D

I didn't know there was a 9 month regression or they were such defined milestones - where did you read that?? Interesting  :)

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links but if you Google wonder weeks and Google sleep regression you should find some answers.

I checked out those links - very interesting! Her sleep has settled 'almost' back to normal this week so hopefully it will continue. Thanks for the suggestions!
