First A time.
« on: December 21, 2010, 12:40:50 pm »
My DS 1st nap is ALWAYS 30 mins. I was wondering how long should his first A time be? He's other A time are 2 - 2.25, but usually 2 hour because of the short nap in the morning.

He's 5.5 months old. TIA.

Hey there hun,

Could you post your routine to have a better idea, and how are your nights?

Back to your question the average A time is 2.5 hrs, same babies do more and other do less.

His EASY is as it follows. He's just gotten over bronchiolitis (Thank God), so we're just getting back on track.

Wakes up 8.

E - 8.
A - 8 - 10.
S - 10 - 10.30

E - 11
A - 10.30 - 1.
S - 1 - 3.

E - 3.
A - 3 - 5.30.
S - 5.30 - 6.

E - 6, CF 7.
A - 6 - 8.
S - 8.00 (Bedtime)

Nights he's waking 3 times and I'm just exhausted. I've realised that if he naps in total of 4 hours or more it steals from his night sleep and he wakes up even more.

I thought at this age he shouldn't be having soo much NWs.

Thanks in advance Yazzie.

Sorry about the NWs, they really do go through phases and the day routine affects night sleep so much more than we'd wish, so hand on in there :-*

I think that first nap really is UT, because although it's a short nap he can do his full A time and have a good 2nd nap, so I'd suggest extending the first A by 15 mins and see how things go.

His last A could also be too much, considering that he's only had a CN, so you could try an cut that a bit and see how things go.

HTH :-*

So for his 1st A time do you mean that it should be 2.50 long? If so I always thought that the 1st A time should be shorter than the actual A time that they can handle.

Sorry also I didn't understand about his last nap. Should I stop him gradually from having his last nap? Also in total how long should their nap be 2 hours before I should wake him up?

We'd try to extend the first A, so instead of 2hrs it would be 02.15 and see how things go, the length of the first A really differs from one child to the other, so you really have to follow your lo's cues.

As for the last nap, he probably still needs it, but you could consider cutting the last A abit in case he can't handle his usual A towards the end of the day.

Nap length would ideally be 1.5~2 hrs.

Hope this helps :-*

Thanks Yazzie. I'll try it out and keep you posted. Just one last question :). So for the last A time how long should I make it 1.75?
