Need help for 18 month old NW!
« on: January 14, 2011, 20:14:10 pm »

Annie has been a great sleeper/napper with one small expeption, she is still waking up in the middle of the night. She usually only wakes once per night but sometimes she will cry for over 1 hour if we don't go in. If we do go in she is standing in her crib, we put her down and then she goes right back to sleep. This has been going on for about 4 months now. Some nights she makes it through without waking but it seems like it is getting worse. I think we can rule out teething, terrors, cold, etc because she does it roughly around the same time every night? Do we let her scream until it stops or do we go in and settle her? She goes to sleep very easily at nap and bedtime and wakes up happy as can be.
Her schedule-
Up at 7am
Nap 11am (1.5hrs)
Bed 8pm
Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!!

What time does she wake? I think she might be a bit overtired she's only getting about 12.5hrs sleep in 24, which isn't much for her age.

Thanks so much for your reply. After reading many of the other posts we wondered whether this might be the problem. We put her to bed 1/2 hour earlier tonight and will keep pushing bedtime forward to see if this helps. If she does wake yp and does the loud crying in the middle of the night, do you all recommend going in and putting her down quickly and not waiting to see if she can get herself back?

Listen to her cries and make a judgement as to whether she needs you. If she is stop-start crying, moaning, whining etc, you can leave her to work it out but if she is genuinely crying you should go in to her.
