19 mth old still on 2 naps...
« on: January 17, 2011, 05:56:52 am »
Sooo....I've been on here before, back when my son was 14 mths and thinking he was transitioning to 1 nap.  But here we are, at 19 mths and still on 2 naps!!  BUT, the last 2 days have been ROUGH sleeping days and I feel a change needs to come.  Here's our schedule on my non work days:

7:30 Wake up
10:30 Nap (wake him after 15 minutes)
2:00-4:00 Nap
7:30 Bedtime

This has been what we do on my non work days (I work 2-3 days a week)

This was Today:

7:30 Wake up
11:00 Nap (finally, after playing around for a long time)..woke after 15 minutes
3:00 (FINALLY asleep, after playing around for awhile)
4:00 AWAKE from nap (and very cranky)
8:15 FINALLY asleep (went down at around 7:30)

I know he's on the shorter amounts for awake time but it has worked well for months and months.  But obviously he's ready for more, so should I just cut out the morning nap totally?  Or what would you suggest for a transition?

My work days are a TOTALLY different schedule since he has to get up at 6.  And the 2 naps work great those days since he has a longer daytime.  Not sure how he'd do on 1 nap on those long days...

I would def do 1 nap on the days you are at home....if he is up at 7.30am then you could try a nap around 12pm and see. 4.5 hours should be ok but I guess you may want to start at 11.45am or similar.
If he short naps then you can do an early bedtime.
Keep me posted x

Thanks Becky.  We will try it today.  I typically work Mondays but off b/c of the holiday.  Will try to see how long he can go.  He has ALWAYS had really short A time in the morning, but hopefully we can get it up a bit.

Today, this has been Tanner's schedule

7:45 Wake up
12:30 Nap (went down easily), but...awake after 1hr20minutes!!!!  He has never had that short of a long nap since his early days of napping :( :( :(  Now I am dreading this evening....

Sounds a bit UT actually.  I would have gone with a 1 p.m. from a nearly 8 a.m. waking.  It's so trial and error on the 2-1 and when you have different schedules/routines going on.  I would probably only move your bedtime back a tad - between 7-7:30.  Do you think he can manage?
The tweaking never stops!

Hey, sorry I haven't responded...crazy few days at work.

Tanner had 2 good nap days at the baby sitters...2 naps (a 20 min one in the am, and a 2hr pm nap).  Not sure how tomorrow will look.  He typically goes down easier there since he is so tired.

I did end up putting him to bed at 6:30 the night he was up from his nap at 3, after 1hr20 min, and he slept straight through till I had to get him up at 6:15 (I let him "sleep in") a bit, lol.

We'll see what tomorrow holds.  This transition is tricky!  Some mornings he is so tired and just asking to go to bed!
