Comforter issues
« on: February 02, 2011, 13:22:57 pm »
I wonder if anyone can help.
My daughter is 16 months and has recently gone down to one nap. However in the past few days I have had problems getting her to nap at all.
She sleeps with a comforter and if she drops the comforter our of her cot she screams and screams and wont sleep until I go in and give it back.
I have a video monitor so I can see that she sometimes accidently drops it out the cot and sometimes throws it out on purpose but either way, I feel as though I need to give it back to her or she will not go to sleep.
When I do go in and give it to her she calms down, and then the second I leave her room she screams again, and then the process repeats. This has meant for the last few days she hasn't napped at all.

Anyone have any sugguestions?

can you post your routine. DS also does this from time to time but usually because his routine is out.

DD used to do this with her pacis/lovey when she did not want to sleep. Usually b/c she was OT or UT so def. a routine issue. Although things like that can become a habit when they learn it gets mommy to keep coming back so once you work the routine stuff out you may still have to be a bit tough about returning to her room to give back the comforter when she throws it out on purpose. You may need to adopt a, only return it ONCE policy. First, of course, let's see if it's only routine driven. :)

Ok thanks....

It all varies depending on what time she wakes in the morning, but this is todays routine
6.40- Wake and bottle(usually anywhere from 5am. Today was her latest wake up in a while)
8.30- Breakfast
10.30- Snack
12.15-Lunch
1.40 Sleep (put her down normally anytime from 1-1.30 depending on what time she woke)
2.15pm- Wake (sleep was increasing from constant 1hr 10 to 2hrs) She seemed really tired when she woke up, I think maybe she was looking for her comforter which I placed in her cot after she fell asleep but perhaps not close enough to her (hard to see in the dark!)
This is where we are up to now but I will later..
5.15- Dinner
6.15- Bath
6.30-Bed (depends on how well she napped but between 6.30 and 7)

I actually put her in her cot at 1.10pm and I left her screaming after she dropped her comforter out 3 times and eventually she fell asleep. I am guessing that I put her down too early for her nap and she wasn’t tired enough. Do you think that could be it?

Update-
After she woke from her nap, I left her in her cot screaming for 5 minutes and she eventually found her comforter and went back to sleep- looks like I did leave it too far away!
