developmental or something else?
« on: February 20, 2011, 05:09:09 am »
Hi,

Not sure if this belongs here, so please feel free to move it:)

DS is generally a good sleeper.  It seems like he's follow a bit of a pattern.  He tends to gradually sleeps later in the morning, and therefore gradually needs to go to bed later.  Before we know it he's going to sleep at 9:00 pm (or later :-\)and waking up at 8:30 or later.  Then, one night he will only sleep just under 10 hours, but it's about 7:00 am so it seems pointless to try and fight the early wake because if he does fall back asleep it will be mean sleeping past 9:00 and ideally he would be up around 7:30.  It seems like these short nights often coincide with lo appearing to suddenly be older.  He just seems older and I always think, "wow, you grew up over night again."  Has anyone else noticed something like this?  I'm torn between thinking that a developmental leap is to blame for the short night, and thinking that I'm looking for an explanation/connection that isn't there. I'm curious to see what your experience has been.  He had a 9hr 45 min night last night (in part due to teething 2 year molars I think) but his speech is so much more today.
 :)

20 months. I'm just curious really. Those 7am wake-ups after 9.5 hrs would normally be worth tackling as with a reasonable bedtime they would be happening at 4am. This has been happening for ages.
Thanks:)

Have you tried waking him at around the same time every morning? Most LO's who wake around the same time every morning tend to be easier to keep in a more predictable routine as their body clock 'sets' to that WU time.

What does your current routine look like?
