should my lol take formula or fresh milk?
« on: February 17, 2011, 13:35:27 pm »
hi my lol's 19 months old , she takes about 500ml formula a day, sometimes less, sometimes more than that.  some people say she should take fresh milk ;but some say she still needs formula.  i don't know which one is right. and one more question is that, if i feed her fresh milk, shall i feed her milk specially made for kids or just the common milk we adults take? cos i 'm now living in Korea, there're two kinds of fresh milk , one is for kids with vitamines, calcium and some other nutrition; one is just milk without anything other things (it's for the adults).  some people say the one for the kids are not natural ,so don't feed the kids. some say that the one for adults are too strong for kids to absorb.  very confused.

UK advice is to give cow's milk from 1 year unless there are any intolerances or allergies. Some mums do keep their LO's on formula but if they are eating a varied diet they don't need it. Your LO is having quite a lot of formula, and it is a bit more filling than cow's milk, ther only need 14-16oz of dairy to meet their needs and this includes what is in their food.

I would swap to ordinary cow's milk to be honest - but not the reduced fat stuff! She may not like the taste but you can gradually swap it by exchanging an oz of formula for an oz of cows milk. So for a few days do 7oz formula + 1oz cows milk, then do 6oz formula + 2oz cows milk etc until it's just cow's milk.

Is she drinking milk in a bottle or cup? If it's a bottle you should also look at changing the bottles for cups.
