Help with EASY routine for 7 week old
« on: March 08, 2011, 15:42:42 pm »
This is my 2nd child. My first one did good on EASY, but I only started it at 8 weeks, so I know this is young to have too much expectations, but I feel frustrated.
My DD is of good weight (born at 8 lbs 4 oz.) and is now probably around 12ish lbs.
Her routine is
E: 7:00 a.m.
A: hangs out it chair or on floor
S: 8:00 - 8:15 a.m. (falls asleep o.k. but only sleeps for 30-45 mins!)
Y:
E: 10:00 a.m
A: same as above
S: 11:00 ish (depending on how long she's been up since the earlier bombed nap) (has slept anywhere from 45 min to 1.5 hours)
Y:
E:1:00 p.m.
A: same as above
S: 2 - 2:15 ish (she tends to bomb this nap!) but I have to say she usually doesn't wake up crying. She's grunting and hanging out in her crib. I hardlywould even have to go in there.
Y:

E:4:00 p.m.
A:Bath time, playtime etc.
S: Cat nap from 5- 6 p.m. usually in my arms
Y:
E: 7: 00 p.m.
A: none really
S: goes to bed for night
Y;
We dreamfeed at 10:45 p.m. and she's usually up once or 2 x to feed at night.
My questions is how to extend the 'bombed' naps and when to change to a 4 hour routine!
Any help?

I'm having the same issues with the nap.  My baby is 7 weeks old tomorrow & I am just trying to start this program.  He has been eating 2 oz. every 2 hours and I'm trying to extend to 3oz every 3 hours...today I noticed that I don't think I'm giving him enough time to eat because he sucks down the 2oz. in 15 min and seems done, but today I just waited a little longer and offered him more formula and he almost sucked down 4oz!  For the most part though he has been only napping for 45min. at a time and I'm not sure what to do with the rest of the time if we are supposed to try & stick to this schedule.  Do I try to put him back down?  I'm just not sure.

A couple of days ago he was only waking 2wice in the night, but lately has been back to waking up to feed every 3 hours.  Tonight I may try just rocking him back to sleep during the night instead of feeding him because when he wakes during the night sometimes he's only eating like 1oz.

HI girls and welcome both of you to BW!!

robinfehr-Is your LO FF or BF?  You are still very young at this point and having perfect naps isn't super common...some can do it lots can't.  What you are mainly trying to do at this point is set the EASY routine into play...not feeding to sleep or using props to get to sleep.  Also watching your LO to try to figure out what his tired cues really are.
You would try to extend naps at this point by using shh/pat.  So when you here the fussing start go to your LO and do your shh/pat.

You will not be going to 4hr easy until somewhere around 16-18o so you have plenty of time.

So also at this point, babies tend to square away their night sleep, which your LO seems to be doing a great job.  It is pretty common to have NW still at this age.  Nap can be developmental and will get worked out as you try extending their naps and A times.

Here are a few links that may give you a general idea:

nhgirl1168-
but lately has been back to waking up to feed every 3 hours
Is he waking hungry?  I would think maybe you are going through a GS?  How much FF is he getting in a 24hr period?  Have you thought of reflux?  Have you read Tracy's books, or do you have one to reference?  Instead of rocking (which is a prop..something we try to avoid) at night, I would try using shh/pat. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=26671.0

You may want to start a thread of your own if you have more specific questions that I did not anser here.
