11 mo with long random NW
« on: March 14, 2011, 01:32:42 am »
Not sure what is going on here and am looking to the gurus to help.

DS is waking at random times during the night and refusing to go back to sleep for a min of an hour and a half up to 3 hours at times.  He us teething with his molars ATM, but even with Panadol or nurofen he is still impossible to settle.

NW occur anytime from 10pm onwards the latest being around 2.30am.

I try to resettle in the cot, but eventually out of tiredness give up and take him into bed with me where he is quiet, but wriggles and grabs my hair and face and essentially plays with me even though I just lie there quietly myself.  After an half and hour of "play" he will go to sleep at which point I transfer him back to his cot.

His easy is:

A: 7.00
E: 7.30 solids 9.30 formula
S: 10.30
A: 12.00pm
E: 12.30 solids 2.30 formula
S: 2.45
A: 3.30
E: 4.00pm afternoon tea: 5.30 dinner 6.30 formula
S: 7.00-7.30pm

Can anyone shed some light?  He had been doing really well up to now and any NW required a quick reassurance and straight back to sleep.

Could he be UT and need to drop his pm catnap?

Hi,

Long NWs are hard, but we had them too around the same age. It could either mean UT if they are up and chatty/happy or teething. I'm no expert, but I'm willing to share my experiences with you and some things I did to help.

Have you read these links?

You might be starting the dreaded 2-1 trans. It's a long process though and I think your lo is still too young to be dropping that last nap. In fact, looking at your EASY (which is very similar to ours and my DS is 14mo) you might think about adding in more A time and that might help.

Is there a reason why your second A time is only 2hrs45min? After a 1.5hr nap I would think your DS could handle 3hrs if not 3:15?? Does your DS fight you on that second nap? Does he wake naturally after 45min or do you wake him? Is there any BT resistence? Is he STTN?

If you push that second nap later, say 3pm your BT would be later and that might just help with the long NWs. If after tweaking your EASY a tad and things don't change, then it could be the teething monster and unfortunately you will just have to ride it out.

Hang in there.
