suddenly fussy/crying during naps
« on: March 30, 2011, 15:55:46 pm »
Hi everyone,

My LO is 8 weeks old and has been on EASY since early on and doing well on it.  I was able to pur her for naps and she would nap well or would be in the crib quietly just looking around.  Nights have also been good.  Since the last few days she has been fussy for some reason... unable to settle for naps or may fall asleep for a few minutes to maybe 40 minutes and then wake up sorta whining and then eventually crying and the crying can get pretty bad.  Nothing seems to work except the swing... she cries in my arms and the pacifier, which used to work wonders, is not really helping.  I have tried letting her fall asleep in the swing and then transfer to the crib but that doesn't work either.  Any idea why the swing calms her down... what could be going on?  She sleeps well at night so far, but don't want to ruin her daytime routine... Please help.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the boards.  The swing works because they like the rocking motion, like they fall asleep in the car/buggy.  She may have got a bit OT therefore finding it harder to settle right now.  Might be worth letting her have a couple of good naps in the swing to get on top of OT for now and then work on getting her to sleep in the crib again.  Do you use shush/pat to get her to sleep or does she self soothe?

Thanks for your reply!  She generaly self-soothes or with a pacifier.  I try the shh/pat when she is crying but can't really get it to work.  I was wondering if crib toys like the mobile and pictures on bedding is providing her with extra stimulation?  Are people using musical mobiles when they put their LO in the crib to help relax them, or is this too much stimulation?  I feel like maybe I need to get rid of all these kinds of toys b/c she seems to do better at night when it's dark and can't see these things.  What do you think?

It may be OS her.  If she can self soothe without it then I wouldn't use it.  Has she got any sort of lovie yet?
