Hi - my DS has always been a short napper - not that he only needs short naps, he's just taken very few decent length naps in his life, although I've sometimes been able to resettle him. I've usually waited for him to cry properly when he wakes after 30-45mins before going in and putting my hand on his chest etc - but today I just left him... it wasn't a really desperate cry, I'd have gone in if it were, but it was a proper cry - just on and off, not sustained... He was asleep again by himself in 10-15mins, he didn't scream himself back to sleep, just the crying got less and less and turned into a low creaky moan before going quiet. He almost always now just goes to sleep with no fuss after I've left the room at the start of a nap, so I know he can self settle. Question is... 10-15mins does seem like quite a long time, even though the crying wasn't constant and was only in short bursts - do you think I just let him 'CIO' or would it be a good idea to continue letting him cry a bit in the middle of naps? Often when I go in nowadays it only seems to wake him up more and he likes to play with my hand etc and then even if he does start to drift off again he'll wake as I start to leave the room. That's why I thought I'd just stay out this time... but I really really don't want to break trust, so I'm a bit worried I might have inadvertently let him CIO in a bad way... any thoughts, anyone?? TIA!
