No consistency with naps now for 10.5 mt old
« on: March 31, 2011, 15:06:09 pm »
My 10.5 mt old has been a great napper, until this past week.  Her naps have been all over the place!  She will go down for her morning nap and only sleep 30 or 40 min.  But other days, she'll sleep 1.5 hrs, and then catnaps on her afternoon nap, or visa versa.

Here is her EASY:

4:00 or 5:00 am (Wakes and will not go back to sleep until she gets a bottle)
7:00 Wake

E:  7:15-7:45  (solids)
A:  7:45-10:00
S:  10:00- ????? (if it's 11:30..) (I give her a 6 oz bottle of formula before each nap as this is the only time she will stay still long enough to drink it.

E: 11:45-12:15 (solids)
A: 12:15-2:30
S: 2:30-???? (if it's 4:00)  6 oz bottle at 2:30

E: 4:15-4:30
A: 4:30-6:30
S: 6:30 (Start bedtime routine... bath, books, bottle, and in bed by 7:00)

She has been waking (startled) around 7:30-7:45, but we let her fuss for a few minutes and she goes right back to sleep, then she sleeps until 4 or 5 when she wants a bottle, then goes back to sleep until 7.  She wakes up smiling and very happy, so she is getting enough sleep at night.

When she wakes super early from her am or pm nap, I haven't been going in until when she is supposed to get up (a.k.a. according to the schedule she's on).  She just plays in her crib and giggles, and talks to herself.  She doesn't seem unhappy or tired anymore.

Is too early for just one nap?  I have to really fight to get her to stay up until 10 for her first nap, and she is so sleepy and cranky by then, I don't think that's what it is.  Should I try extending her A time with her being that tired?  If that is the case, why is she sleeping well on one nap, but not the other, when the A time is 3 hrs for both?

Thanks.

It is too early for one nap, but she is likely starting the 2-1 nap transition which can take several months.  Here is a link with more info: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=95670.0

I think the best thing is to choose one nap (am or pm) which will be her longer nap, and then limit the other one to maybe 45mins or so.  If you decide which nap is which, then you can adjust your routine accordingly and find consistency again.

My DS2 takes a 30-45min am nap, and a 1.5-2hr pm nap.  I plan to keep whiddling the am nap down until it disappears, and at the same time bring his pm nap earlier and earlier until it hopefully becomes one, long midday nap.  Hope that makes sense!
