Shush-Pat on back...but babies sleep on thier backs!

I read that i should perform Shush-Pat on the back of the baby... but my baby sleeps on his back... could i do shush-pat on his tummy? or should i be holding him upright when i do this??

When he's in your arms you can shush-pat on his back, and then when you lie him down you can do it on his chest, or, if he prefers, you can wedge him on his side and pat his back until he is calm/asleep and then gently roll him onto his back.

I used to do it on my LO's shoulder, because if I rolled her, she'd wake up. It wasn't as effective, but it was still useful.

I did what Anna suggested, starting with LO upright, then transferring to the crib, propped up on his side and kept shh/patting until he was asleep.  Then I rolled him completely (gently) onto his back.

Actually for naps I often just left him wedged on his side. I used receiving blankets rolled up tight in front and behind, and he really couldn't wiggle cuz he was swaddled so good!

I was wondering the same thing!  I've been patting him on hip/belly.

i actually put her lovie to her cheek and gently pat.  moves her head so slightly and she likes that. then when i move my hand her lovie is still there. I want her to love her lovie!!

I used to just pat the mattress with my whole hand, right by his shoulder, he had reflux so patting his body wasnt ideal as it would irritate this but the mattress being thumped was great
