DD doesn't fall asleep
« on: April 20, 2011, 14:21:16 pm »
Hi,

Please help. These few days my DD (6 weeks old) takes ages to fall asleep. Today it has taking me the entire nap time to put her to sleep. In the end it was no point as it was feed time. I don't know what I am doing wrong. She is tired but falls asleep , then wakes up and cries. I have tried everything: shh, pat, living her etc. Nothing seems to work!!!

At night it's even worse. She screams for up to 2 hours sometimes. Now she seems to be even struggling to fall asleep after waking up at night.

What can this be and what can I do about it? Please help. It's really starting to get me down as I have no time to catch up on my sleep. ???  :'(

(((hugs))) sorry you are having such a rough time. How long is she awake before you start trying to put her down? It sounds like she could be really overtired, hence why she's having a hard time settling. The other thought is whether it could be discomfort, do you think it could be reflux?

thanks Anna. I needed those hugs))

Maybe you are right. Maybe she was overtired. I let her play passed 3 yawns. She was awake for 30 minutes eating, plus 20 minutes playing.

Not sure if it's reflux, never heard of it! She gets colic, but it doesn't seem to be it. She settled now ( 6 pm) and I am thinking of waking her for feed at 8 pm and then let her sleep  for the night. My mum thinks I shouldn't even wake her at all during the day, but it was working well up till now.

This is the info in reflux.

Is she swaddled? If she's jolting herself awake, a swaddle can really help. The other thing is that there is a big growth spurt at 6 weeks, so she may be extra hungry.

Oh, maybe that's what it is! Growth spurt... It's bound to get her affected. I guess we just have to play it by ear for now then. Thanks for your answers
