How to fit 2-3-4 schedule into 13hour day
« on: April 21, 2011, 11:48:19 am »
A fellow BW'er suggested the 2-3-4 approach to me eg if LO wakes at 7am the day would look like:

A: 7am-9am
S: 9am-10am
A: 10am-1pm
S: 1pm-3pm
A: 3-7pm

I'm trying to follow this for my DS but he sleeps an 11hr night & I'm not sure which A times to increase & by how much.  Or whether I need to decrease S times too.  He's 8 months old & currently wakes at 5am ish.

Today for example we did:

A: 5am - 7.30am (2.5hrs)
S: 7.30am - 8.15am (45mins)
A: 8.15am - 11.30am (3h 15mins)
S: 11.25am - 12.40pm (1h 15mins)
A: 12.40pm - ????

His naps are falling short of the scheduled times & I don't know how to make it through to the end of the day without another nap - but we don't want to be taking CN anymore do we?????

Any thoughts???

Hello

I would increase your first A time as it's a bit short for your LOs age.  That might help to increase that first nap length too.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks Smurfette.

He doesnt usually do such a short A time - he normally does 3hrs+ but we are battling OT atm so keeping A times a bit shorter.  A fellow BWer suggested the 2-3-4 approach to help us get over the OT.  The theory being that with a short 1st A time they naturally do a short 1st nap (UT) & then as UT can cope with full age appropriate A time with a (hopefully) 2hr nap after it.  Then they are rested enough to cope with a long A to BT.

Nice in theory but only if LO always sleeps the 3 hrs/day & does a 12hr day and a 12hr night.

Only thing I wasn't sure of was how to fit that into my day which is always 13hrs. i.e. do I do:

A: 3hrs
S: 1hr
A: 3.25hrs
S: 2hrs
A: 3.75hrs

???????

Well there's not much you can do, because the numebrs don't fit! So, you could add 15 mins onto each A time, or 30 mins onto each sleep... only trouble is, of course babies don't always stick to our plans!
