He has napped again today for my Mum - and still screamed through dinner and eaten like a flea.

I think we are getting into a lot of 'power struggle' behaviour here really. We don't respond to it but he is going it anyway iyswim??

Sigh. Kids hey?!

(((hugs))), Liz.  This really isn't the sort of thing you need to be dealing with right now.

I'm not sure that I have any helpful advice as this isn't something I have really gone through, but have you tried getting him down really early for a nap - like 11am - for 1h30 to see if he can catch up a bit without cutting into his night?  I remember you had to move the nap much later to actually get him to sleep, but perhaps if he is this OT he might respond to the very early nap time.

Oh, and we have dinner at 5pm here - any later does tend to be a bit of a problem as they are starting to get tired by then.

(((((hugs)))) Liz.

O has a cooked lunch and he has "tea" around 5pm, DH and I eat in the evening.  At weekends/holidays we all eat together at lunch time.  This is mainly due to both of us working so much and also being on a fairly early to bed early to rise schedule.

I agree - take it easy and focus on you - if he needs the nap then go for it.  We had many many 9.5 hour nights and a 2 hour nap and that's what was needed for a happy child.  Earlier naps also began to work around here to 'catch up'.  I think that short nights and napping keeps harmony.  It's the short nights and then no napping for days on end when things get messy.  Perhaps if he is taking the nap each day then keep it as a part of his daily routine and accept the shorter night for a little bit longer...

...  oh, dinner for the kids here is at 5pm, then a yogurt and fruit around 6pm before bath.  DH and I eat when they have gone to bed at around 7.30pm.  We do family breakfast and lunches on the weekend - but both my 2 are looking for food at 5pm and we've tried a few family dinners but I'm waiting until DS is older as it was a bit chaotic and rushed for bed...

Hugs Liz - phew, sounds very tough to deal with that on top of everything else :P

I was also going to suggest doing the main meal at lunch time (if you are at home, of course)
My boys have always eaten their main meal at midday. I find they eat much much better and then I know that once the cooking and clearing up is done I only have to make a sandwich/snack at teatime with a glass of milk - I hate having a kitchen full of saucepans at bedtime.

Nicholas's behaviour is always dreadful if he hasn't eaten - I ALWAYS know if he hasn't eaten his snack at school by his behaviour on the way home :P ::)

And I'm sure you've tried this - but have you tried a drive around on a particularly bad day - will he nap in the car?
Or lying down with him in your bed while Meg naps? Maybe do a long story first?

Hugs. It will get better :-* :-* :-*

We do 5pm as well but be is still going nuts. He isn't the best eater anyway  ::) ::). I might try something more substantial at lunchtime to see if that helps. He does have supper at 6.30pm but he often is too tried to eat then anyway (or he eats 100 cheerios as he is starving  >:().

AP - easy peasy in the car - just finding time to do it. Longer wind downs do help get the nap as well. Maybe we will just have to keep him up later at night - it is just that our dinner gets SO late if we do that. I could plan for it but I never really know what days it will be. Maybe he would still sleep in his buggy?? I don't really know but i suspect he would.

Everything i try and do needs to fit in to save time elsewhere iswyim as my days are SO busy!! So if only the dog would WALK on his lead rather than shake and sit on his bum  ::) ::), I could multitask that one. But Sweep is useless on his lead ATM (he is only a pup). Worth a try though  :).

Thanks again ladies  :).

hugs, Liz.  I'm not sure if you still remember of our 15.5mo long EW/NW and now DS is sleeping almost 2h nap and 11.5h nights pretty much most days now.  I'll check back on my records to see how we got rid of the OT cycle.   We had ups and downs, but he woke up at 8:35 yesterday morning!  almost 12 h night!

Thinking of you today as you just had chemo yesterday!!  xxx
