26 Months old , cant get the nap time right!
« on: May 23, 2011, 12:53:04 pm »
Hi !

need help ! J has been sleeping through the night for some time now ( fingers crossed , every time i make that statement, she decides to not sleep through)

However, over the last few days here is the issue thats happening :

W: 8:00-9:00 am
S: 2:30- 4:00 pm
S: 10:30 - 11:00 pm.

will sleep through there on.

with the late nights , its difficult to wake her up at 7:00 and we seem to be in a persistent cycle of delayed sleep.

the only way she will sleep early is if she has skipped the nap in the afternoon.

whats the right way to correct the cycle ? And the length and and time of nap so that she sleeps at 8:00 pm

Richa

Hi there

That is a really late BT....are you trying to shift the day earlier?

If you woke her at around 7am then you could bring the nap earlier which would mean an earlier BT (I would suggest that BT by around 8pm was appropriate at this age).

To get back on track you could try capping the nap so you can get to an earlier BT then wake at 7am-ish the following day......what do you think?

After the 1.30pm nap what time did you try and do bedtime?

I wonder if you're missing her sleep window.

Laura just posted what I was going to say.  I think the window is being missed and she's loopy loo by 10/11.

I'd start by capping too, and shift the day gradually back to something more reasonable.  There's no Y time otherwise!!

I wondered - in situations like this, you don't know whether they are ready to drop their nap or alternate no nap days - how do you know? Thanks, am curious.

Richa, I would still go for 12 hour days, don't wait for cues. If she's awake at 8am, do a 1.5 nap and get her back in bed with lights out by 8pm.

Huby, the clue for us was that it started taking Stan a really REALLY long time (like, over an hour) to fall asleep at night. He wasn't crying or unhappy, just couldn't get to sleep.

Ah ha, thanks for that. What about the naps - do they still go down for those without a fight? How do you know when to start cutting the nap back in the first place? Sorry will stop hyjacking this thread, I just wondered if Ew is the only clue? Sorry Richa, I will step back now and just observe the thread. Thanks!

With Stan, he wasn't EWing really at the time, just getting less night sleep b/c he was falling asleep late at night. Was still going down easy for his nap MOST days. I'm sure other LOs are different though (of course)!!

Yes!!!!!,!
I caught her sleep window! 12hours to the dot!
1 HR nap in the afternoon at 1:15 !
Now to consistency from tomorrow.

Huby,no issues! If we could get all the suggestions together to help our LOs!

Yep sounds about right :-)  We are maybe figuring this out do you think Richa? lol  Only took us 2 years!

Huby it's a mixed bag really.  As Anna said, some will fight their nap, some will wake early, some will have marathon NW to get some A time...it's really dependent on the kiddo.

For us it was similar, taking ages to go off at night when he normally passes straight out at bedtime.  And then fighting the nap - that was a BIG red flag with us because he always took it like clockwork for 12 mths.
