well not a good night after cutting that nap yesterday

8.15am wake
1.30pm sleep
3pm wake
7.45pm bed, but fell asleep at 9pm, was sitting up in bed then laying down etc etc, not crying just settling herself well trying, gave her meds earlier....So late sleep.. dont know why? thats like 6 hours last A time

woke at 8.10am, so just over 11 hours, and a bit grumpy. see how the day goes and will let her sleep the 2 hours today, might put her down a bit earlier for her nap?

ok so after an 8.15am wake up i put her down at 1.15pm 5 hours A time when normally its about 5 hours 30 A its 1.30pm and she is asleep, so i guess she will have 2 hours after a short night. NOw my question is should i aim for bed at 8pm, or earlier and i guess by the time she falls asleep will be just after 8 if i put her down around 7.30pm, i know its a short A time till bed but i dont want the same thing as last night....my aim is to have her asleep by 8pm so then she can give me an earlier wake up, i know i know earlier wake up but would much prefer it

lol I have to laugh at you wanting an earlier wakeup since most people are aiming for a later one.  But my DS1 was just like at the same age and he would sleep until 8 if I let him, but I usually woke him around 7:30.

So if you want a 12hr night (or at least an 11.5hr one) then use put her down at 7:30 and hope for asleep by 8 at the lates.  It will be a short A so I hope that works out ok.  :)

well this is the third night in a row we have had 3 short nights, yesterday was

8.15am wake
1.45 pm sleep, i thought she was asleep at 1.30 but wasnt
3.45pm wake (2 hour nap)

then this happened, my dh put her to bed around 7.45 and aiming for sleep around 8 or just after, but she didnt fall asleep until 9.45pm, i went in and resettled her around 9pm as she was just moving about in the bed and sitting up then laying down, a bit restless, but not crying. Then finally at 9.45 she fell asleep... We gave her meds before bed, so not too sure not if its teeth? could it be that cos she had a 2 hour nap so late? and now she needs more A time before bed? i mean i would have loved to have woken her at 7.30am this morning but due to a short night i didnt want to.... this morning she woke at 8am well i got her up as i made some noise so only a 10 hour 15 min night..

ok some help here please what should i do, its been 3 nights in a row with short nights.....

Ok, it very well could be teeth.  Or, has she learned any new skills lately?  New words?  DS1 used to take longer to fall asleep after learning something new, like he couldn't shut his brain off.

What if you tried putting her down for a nap at 1 and letting her sleep 2hrs?

I think if you really really want to reset her and get her on an earlier routine, you will have to start waking her to shift everything earlier, even if she has a short night.

yep could be a combo of things as she is starting to say more words and i know in the mornings she chats to herself alot. What else she started swimming 2 weeks ago, um but in general yeh more talking

i put her down just before 1pm and she has just fallen asleep and its 1pm, so a 2 hour nap, and then see how the afternoon goes i guess based on a short night too..?

and aim for a 7.30pm bedtime??

can i ask how long wind down at night is the norm?

I have to agree with Martina in so far as if you want that earlier bed you are going to have to wake her in the morning to preserve nap time - esp. if you don't want to nap cut.  Have you tried just bringing the nap a tad earlier?

TBH though many many mums would kill for a LO who sleeps *that* well ;)

At this age my DS1 needed a pretty decent wind down, but we had to change it up to suit his needs.  For example, before we he would have his bath and then we would do wind down in his room - put on pyjamas, brush teeth, read books, then bed.  When we started noticing he was resisting bedtime, we changed it up.  After his bath he could come downstairs, watch a short show and have a bedtime snack, then pyjamas, brush teeth, books and up to bed.  This seemed to suit him better as he needed more time to wind down, but not just in his room, kwim?

we had a good night last night after yesterday

8am wake
1pm sleep (1 hour 45 min nap)
2.45pm wake
7.45pm bedtime, fell asleep by 8.15pm

woke this morning at 7.30am ish
1pm sleep

aiming for a day like yesterday and with the 7.30am wake ups i prefer....even last night my dh put her to bed after bath she does her teeth, then comes out and watches a bit of tv, then tv goes off and we play with her quietly, then its off to bed about 20 min before hand and dh reads her some books, and last night she sat there and was quite relaxed and ready for bed.

i also noticed that yesterday we spent alot of time outside, esp after she woke from her nap, so possibly could mean she wore herself out a bit more and was tired enough for bed at that time, where over the last few days before that its been cold and have been inside most afternoons, so when bedtime hit she was not tired enough and had not burned enough energy.....

Yes, outdoor play definitely helps wear them out!

I think the earlier nap seems to work better for her.  Hope you can keep up with that, sounds like you are heading the right way.  :)

HI Martina

i too have been busy with my lo, and being preg and not long to go have been resting as much as possible, its a waiting game now for this little one to arrive...

my girl has been going ok, some nights she will go to ssleep within 20 min then other nights its like over 1 hour, like for example the other day she went to sleep at 9pm, and then woke at 7.30am, not too bad but she does much better on 11 plus hour nights, she gets real cranky in the arvos and clingy to me before bed. Yesterday went like this

7.30am wake
1.15pm sleep
3.15pm wake
8.15pm sleep, put her down just before 8, and was asleep within 15 min
woke this morning at 8am, so a good night
she seems to do ok when she goes to sleep around the 8pm mark and wakes at a reasonable time, i do notice her teeth are bothering her so like you say teeth can be the issue here at night time for bed. today is
8am wake
1.25pm sleep, put down just after 1ish cos she had swimming this morning and is tired

All things considered it sounds like she is doing well.  It could be she just has a really narrow sleep window and if you miss it then it takes her longer to go to sleep.  But it does sound like she copes well even on a short night, so you can get it away with it sometimes, kwim?  My DS1 is very much like that as well.  She probably senses some change is in the air too with the new baby coming.  Hope you are managing to get as much rest as possible these last few weeks.  :)
