Help with BGB transition.
« on: June 13, 2011, 13:26:39 pm »
Hi Ladies,

So we got a BGB for our DD and she loves it!!  YAY!  Well she loves to play in it and read books in it before bed but come sleep time she wants to go to her crib.  So my question is how long do we give her until we start really trying to put her down for sleep in it?  And what do we do, rightnow she just whines if we leave the room with her in her bed.  We have lots of time for the transition as Baby # 2 isn't due until December but we thought we would start early, just in case, and we want her to be in her BGB when we switch her room which won't be ready probably until September/October.  (We are doing major renovations right now to our basement and all 4 of us will be sleeping down there once the rooms are ready and baby comes!)

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction by giving her lots of exposure to it.  Have you asked her if she wants to sleep there?  Maybe try it for a nap and see?  I found it helped to read DS1 books about the transition.  Talk about it lots, how great her new bed will be, and make it as cozy as possible.  Does it have a bedrail?  I found a bedrail made DS1's bed feel more secure and criblike.  If she doesn't already have a lovey or special toy, when you are ready for the transition you can make a big deal about picking out new sheets and a special bed stuffed toy.  Stuff like that.  I think come September/October she will be fine, a few months makes a big difference with maturity at this age.  :)

Yes everytime we put her down we ask her crib or bed and she always points to her crib.  It is one of those toddler beds so it only has the half rail but I'm thinking maybe we should buy another one and put it on the other end, what do you think?

She has a lovey already and she was with us when we picked out the mattress and bed and helped with that (it's just a crib mattress so we get to use her old sheets).

So do you think that if we just leave it in her room and then try in a couple weeks to get her to sleep in it that would be fine.  We were thinking about trying for naps this weekend as she does sleep in a cot which pretty much sits of the floor at daycare.  I'm thinking maybe in the end we may have to take the crib out of her room but like I said we have lots of time so we are rushing or forcing things yet!!!
