W2S or SHH/pat for nap extension....12 week old
« on: August 21, 2011, 04:40:39 am »
Hi everyone,

I could really use some advise on my DS's naps...or lack of  ::) He goes down indepently most of the time but getting through that 40 min mark just doesn't happen. He's been doing this since he was only a few weeks old. He was a very windy baby & has had 2 colds in his short life so that hasn't helped.

I'm just unsure if i should be doing w2s or shh/pat to extend his naps.
For w2s, do i go in & stir him around the 30 min mark? Do i stay with him until he's fully out again? If it does work how long do i have to do it for? Sorry i have so many questions but i'm at my wits end with him. I have an almost 3 DD at home to who isn't really getting enough attention as i'm always dealing with a cranky tired bub!

He eats every 3 hours & he does EAS but the short naps throw everything off. He does around 1hr 30 for awake in the morning.
Any help would be great  :)
Thanks

Hey there :)

Have a look at the following links and let me know what you think and if you have more questions. They should give you some good info on where to start and your options.

40 min naps can be an indication of OT or OS. I wonder if your first A needs to be brought back a touch ie 1hr20. What do you think?
one way to help identify the best way to help your LO through the first sleep cycle is to sneak in at ~30 mins and observe (sneakily) to see what your LO is doing ie do his eyes pop open, does he drop his paci, do the jolts wake him up...
