Help with nap and bedtime 2.5 yr old
« on: July 12, 2011, 21:33:06 pm »
Generally DS is a good sleeper although went through bad stage few months back when DD was born. He has since settled at night although having problems at BT which I think is because of his nap situation. Hecwas always having a two hour nap at 12-2 and going to bed at 730pm. This week he has refused lunchtime nap and then by 3pm crashes out usually when out in pushchair or car. Because of this late nap he is therefore not very tired so we are struggling to get him to sleep before 830/9pm. What should we do as he can't get through the day without a nap but fights nap at lunchtime. When I can I have been going out in the car at lunch to get him to take the nap but I can't always do this. Should i try and stop naps? Any advice please? Thanks

I'm pretty much just following along, bc we are really struggling with my DD's naps right now too.

But, would he accept a slightly later nap, say 1 pm or even 1:30?  Maybe he is UT at 12?

My DS is 2.5 and I am wondering if maybe you put hm to sleep by 1pm and then maybe only let him sleep 1.5 hrs.  that way you can keep around the same bedtime.  DS slept two hours for almost a full year, then we started to have a little bit of trouble so I shortened his nap.  I personally think 2.5 is still too early to stop napping completely.  Hope that helps and good luck!

My twins were on the same schedule! They are 3 now, and still napping, but I have to cap it in order to get a reasonable bedtime! At 2.5 years, I did exactly what pp said- nap at 1 and only for an hour and a half! We are still doing the 1pm nap now, but it can only be for an hour. I am basically only letting them be in their cribs (yeah, don't want to tackle that just yet :)) from 1-2. If the fall asleep then bedtime is 7:30, if they don't, or only for a short amount of time (DD sometimes does this), then I just move bedtime up. Good Luck!
