Is it SA or getting over a cold?
« on: June 29, 2011, 15:02:12 pm »
Need some help here, please.
My 8 mo DS stopped sleeping well in the night. About a week ago he caught a cold, and lost his ability to resettle, he wants me with him all the time. For the past few days i put him to bed, he sleeps for 2-3 hours then wakes up and starts screaming. DH causes major hysteria, as soon I as I come into the room, DS reaches for me and immediately calms down. I put him back in his crib, he relaxes, I sit on a stooll right next to him, he falls asleep. As soon as I leave the room, he wakes up screaming and nothing can resettle him (this goes on for 2-3 hours). I ended up taking him to bed with me so that he can get some sleep, and immediately he calms down and peacefully dozes off. DH was forced to sleep on a couch for the last three days cause he's scared of waking up DS. Its miserable. Our daytime sleep is ok: first nap is 1 hour , second 2 hours with A time of about 3 hr and 15 min and BT is uneventful. I tried medicating him but then he has a hard time falling asleep at all.
Is it SA? How do I deal with it? Help!

Thanks JAY3.
So last night I tried staying in the room with him, and still he went crazy. Ended up putting a matress on the floor right next to his crib and both of us sleeping there. He still woke up like 3-4 times at night, rolling around and crying.
I have no idea whats going on with that boy :(

Hi Jay3
My DS is 8 month and no teeth yet, however he's chewing on everything like a puppy, and i can see them stubborn things right there, but thats been the case for the past 3 months. I am hoping that they will pop out soon, cause it seems like its been forever.

Our typical day before this crazy week goes something like that:

6:30 wake up
7:00 breakfast
10:00 sleep
11:15 wake up
11:30 bottle
12:30 lunch
2:30 sleep
4:15 wake up
4:30 bottle
5:30 dinner
7:30 bedtime

The last week was a mess though, I put him to bed around 7:20 and we struggle to fall asleep until 8, 8:20. When I am trying to calm him down he starts laughing and rolling all over the place, and when I go out of sight he starts freaking out and crying. We've had EW (around 4 am) for a while now, but I nurse him and he falls back asleep (usually in bed with us, otherwise he does not settle and he's up for the day).

I hope he gets back into sleeping. Today was crazy, he refused his first nap and we ended up having one long nap today from 11:30-2 and then he was up until 8, with a 10 minute shut eye in a car when we went to pick up his dad from work around 6. As a result of this crazyness he went to bed at 7:30 and finally fell asleep at 8:20 ( i was laying on the floor right next to him holding his hand). And he already woke once around 10 but he settled back to sleep.
I feel like i need to get him back on track asap, otherwise its all going to fall apart and i'll end up with an cranky OT baby  :(

Hi JAY3 :)
Things are getting better considering that we had a crazy week, with a bunch of visitors and staying up late. But last night he went to bed around 8:00, woke up at midnight and just wanted to know that I was there (I sat with him for 10 minutes until he fell back asleep) and then he slept until 6:40. So that was awesome, hoping it was not a fluke.
No teeth yet :(
