Opinions on 1hr20 naps??
« on: July 14, 2011, 11:06:28 am »
Just a quick one...

We seem to be getting lots of 1 hour 20 minute naps recently - what do they mean? UT? OT?

Also do they count as restorative or do I need to shorten A after them?

Thanks

I'd say slightly UT.

And no I wouldn't shorten the next A time as it would be restorative enough.

The thing is we've only been having them since trying to stretch A time...so you think I need to push even more then?

How long have you been stretching?

What A time were you at and what are you increasing it by?

How old if your LO?

thanks for getting back to me so quickly  :)

LO has just turned 6 months. He recently start with the EW's so have been trying to extend A time, it was at about 2.15/20 and aiming for 2.30 at least. I think he may be OT in general because of EW which isn't helping things. This morning he gave me 1 hr 20 on 2.35 A, yesterday morning he gave me 2hrs on 2.25 A. But then again yesterday afternoon he only did 45mins on 2.30 A and I couldn't extend. Arh it's such a minefield!

When extending you add 10/15 minutes and you have to consistently stick to to it for 4/5 days. By chopping and changing a LO doesn't get a chance to adapt to the new times and you won't know for sure if the increase will help naps.

I would aim for 2.30 and stick to it for at least 3 days and see do things even out.

Have you dropped the CN yet?

Okay thanks will try that, am trying to be consistent but find the morning A time especially hard to judge because LO is in own room and doesn't always call out when he wakes so I just have to guess some mornings!

Also am I right in thinking a lot of LO's can handle more A time as the day progresses? Mine seems to be able to.

Nope haven't dropped the catnap yet, REALLY want to be able to but he can't quite do enough A time and at the mo naps just arn't consitently long enough to get us through the day. Especially with these EW.

Will try to be more consistent with 2.30 A and see where it takes me.

Yes lots of LO like their first A time the shortest. My DD1 always liked her longest A time to bed so if you are having a hard time with the first A time you could make it slightly shorter and do 2.30 the rest of the time. A times will need to be about 3 hours before you can get rid of that pesky CN but you're on the way now!!

Keep me posted how you are getting on xx
