6mos old not BF...possible teething
« on: July 27, 2011, 02:50:10 am »
I just started my 6mo son on solids last week. A few days after starting, I noticed he was struggling to nurse. He will turn his head and scream as if I am hurting him with wanting him to feed. Other times he will nurse for a little bit and then pop off and no longer want to feed. And then last night he has all of the sudden started waking up several times at night crying as though he is famished. I went ahead and nursed him, and he ate and slept great from that point on. I'm not sure if he is going through a growth spurt, teething, problems with starting solids, or a combo somewhere in there. Any one have any advice or does this sound like something you've gone through. I have posted his EASY schedule below. **Still phasing in solids**

It kind of sounds like teething to me.  If your worried about it possibly being solids, you could always stop them for a day or two to see if it makes a difference.  If it is teething, what often worked with my dd1 was to give her a frozen washcloth to chew on before nursing (just make a washcloth damp and put it in the freezer for a bit) - her gums would be a touch numb and wouldn't bother her (as an aside, a very cold baby mouth feels really odd on your nipple...)

Agree with Erin, sounds like my LO when he is teething, esp if he is making up the lost milk later on when his teeth are not hurting...can you see any sign of teething in his mouth?
