Wakeful Periods for 5 week old
« on: October 21, 2011, 12:12:21 pm »
Hello Ladies - wondering how long my 5  week old wakeful periods should be during the day - an hour and a bit? Trying to make sure she has bed time at 6 or 6:30pm - any thoughts would be appreciated! Last night was disastrous - she was fussing from 7-midnight holy overtired!

Hi Aggie,
Yep, A time (including feeding) most likely is right around an hour still, maybe a tish more at 5 weeks (but could be a tish less also).  Does she show any sleepy signs (a yawn; some fussiness; she's probably not rubbing her eyes yet, but her movements might change becoming a little more restless)?

Hi Katie - OK good, that's what we've been trying to do - she does yawn and get cranky. We are aiming for a 6:30pm bedtime, does that seem reasonable? anytime after 7pm she seems to start getting fussy and over tired so we figure might try to get her down before then.

Yes, if you notice it's harder for her after 7 pm, then I'd say that's reasonable.  It depends on what her routine looks like for the day, really.  A lot of babies have a fussy time in the early evenings, so it could be that too.
