15 month old resisting nap
« on: October 04, 2011, 12:14:08 pm »
My 15 month old has been on one nap since 13 months or maybe a bit earlier. She is only 15 months and has been fighting her nap time for over a week now. I put her in her cot but she still isnt asleep an hour later, and then wants to get out. I have tried putting her down later or just after lunch but nothing works. In the end at around 2 30 I take her for a pram ride which sends her off. I have spent ages walking in, putting her down and walking out but she gets very distressed. Acouple of weeks ago she was having two hours in the daytime.

What can I do???

The routine is:
A 7am
S 12 30 - 1 after lunch and same routine of a few stories
Depending on what happens I always wake her around 3 (it used to be 2 30 but now she doesnt even go to sleep until 2 30 sometimes)

Bedtime is around 7 to 7 30.

She is finally sleeping through the night but is starting to put up the same fight when she goes down!!!

Please help.

Hi there....

Is she lower sleep needs would you say? I ask as she appears to have dropped her nap quite early & is also handling longer than average A-times.

Is she teething at all? Does she have her 1st yr molars through yet?

When you say she has been fighting her nap, what has she been doing; crying? babbling/playing? This will give a bit of an insight into what's going on.....if she's been refusing naps & BT then it does sound like she's more than likely in a bit of an OT loop. You could try pulling her nap earlier to see if this makes a difference & make sure you do a good wind-down so that she's as calm as possible before she goes down.

Does this help?

Hi

She is definately a lower sleep needy baby/toddler. She can handle long A times, she just wants to keep going  :)

And I think she was OT as what was happening was that she would have lunch and have a short play with dd1 then go to bed, but this was obviously overstimulating her so as soon as lunch is finished we go up to her room and have stories for about 15mins to let her food go down and then she goes in, chatters for a while and plays and eventually falls asleep. She definatley needs to be calm before her sleep!!!

Thanks for your help as it really made sense.

Maybe a try a slightly longer wind-down to see if this makes a difference?
