Tofu Ideas
« on: October 24, 2009, 00:23:30 am »
My lo only tried tofu once and I would like her to eat it more often. I normally bake it or mix it with a stir fry. Any other ideas on how to cook it so it will taste yummy?

Hi, tofu has quite a bland taste so it can easily be mixed with fruits or vegetables.
Add 50gr to any recepie u have and it will blend quite well.

We have only used it in stir fry too - just to warn you though it is quite hard for LO to digest and it gave DS a bit of a sore bottom (Even though he loved it!)  ;D

perhaps add some to stew and cook for about 5-10 mins as it will absorb all the nice flavour.  You can also blend it with fish or egg to make steamed or fried fish cake or steamed savoury egg custard.

Got this one from Wholesome Baby Food a while back and they came out pretty good!

Ingredients:
1 package firm tofu
1/4 cup flour (more or less)
2 egg yolks
1 cup fine dry bread or cracker crumbs (mixtures are fun)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 dash or a few grinds of pepper

Directions:
Cut tofu into your favorite configuration.
Spread flour on a small plate or flat dish. Beat egg yolks in a
shallow dish. Mix remaining ingredients in shallow dish.

Coat each piece of tofu in the flour to cover, then into the egg, then crumbs, and then to the rack. Chilling will help to set the coating, but you can just bake right away.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 15-20 minutes until crisp.
Serve with a dipping sauce such as pureed sweet potato or pureed peaches.

we cube ours and let it marinade in soy sauce/lemon juice or lemon juice/salsa and then just warm it on the pan.  kids will eat tofu bites even cold.  they LOVE it.

The sweet ginger tofu is my favourite, and the chocolate pudding is very easy & very yummy!

DD actually loves plain tofu cubes.  I haven't tried putting it in anything for her.  I think I will try it in foods in place of ground beef and go from there.  Maybe chilli or pasta sauce.
