Waking Early
« on: November 21, 2011, 23:32:33 pm »
My baby boy at 5 months has just started waking an hour earlier than normal.
He used to wake at 7am and now is consistently waking at 6am.

His routine is as follows:

6AM Awake
7AM Eat/Bottle
8AM Eat/Solids
9AM Sleep
10.30AM Awake
11AM Eat/Bottle
12PM Eat/Solids
1PM Sleep
2.30PM Awake
3PM Eat/Bottle
4.30PM Nap
5.20PM Eat/Solids
6PM Bath
6.20PM Eat/Bottle
7PM Bed

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried moving his bedtime back to 6.45PM with no change in his waking time the next morning.

Thanks Jane. Yes it had taken many months and midwife visits to get him to STTN. I am fortunate to have achieved this but aware it could change any moment with growth spurts, teething etc; I forgot to say he is also still having a DF. I will try moving everything by 15 mins and see how I go. It's not too much of Ann issue but just wondered why he could be walking early when he previously was not, since his routine has not changed, he is not too hot out cold, and his room is not too bright.

My little guy started doing this at around the same time... i wonder if it's to do with a cognitive leap or something! I'm still not a fan of 6am starts!!

Hi Hun :)

I suspect he is in the early stages of getting ready to drop the CN :)  My DD started doing 10 hr nights around this age and it only changed once she was ready to lose the CN completely.  Her naps during the day lengthened and her wake/BT settled back to what it was (which was an 10.5 hr night!).

RE: the 11 hr nights - we just started to consistently get them.  My DD is just over a year - you are very lucky!

EW - early waking (less than 10 hours of night sleep)
DD = dear daughter
CN = cat nap

I don't think there is a list out there... hmmm...

here are a few more for you:
nw = night waking
sttn - sleeping through the night

If you come across any others, ask away :)

I am in the same situation as you.  Mine changed from waking at 7am to 6am at about the same age.  At nearly 8 months, he is now starting to wake at 5am  :o  He is getting 10.5 hours, so I guess that is enough for him.  Might be the same for your DS.  I am going to try the 15 min shift too because I could definitely cope with 6am.  Good luck!!

There is just something about 545am that is so much worse than 6am isn't there!

You could be in the very early part of the 2-1 as well... that is when I started to see signs with DD.. it wasn't always consistent day to day, but there were many 10 hour nights and then longer naps... it was tough!

Yeah- i think my guy started to wake earlier as part of the 3-2 transition. He's done some very respectable mornings lately since cutting the cat nap (7:30 this morning :D !!)
