DD is 12 months today (happy birthday Mia!), and naps are all over the place for the last few weeks. Typically, she takes a long 1.5-2 hr morning nap and refuses the pm nap. Daddy gets home around 6 and we like to have some family time before bed so I haven't moved up her bedtime (6:45 bath, 7 bedtime). Today, I'll wake her at 1hr am nap and try for 3 hr A time before pm nap. If she still doesn't take pm nap, bedtime at 6.

Typical:
A 7am
S 11am
A 1pm
S 7pm

Goal:
A 7:00am
S 11:00am
A 12:00pm
S 3:00pm
A ????
S 7:00pm

Cross fingers this works!

Another thought.... since Mia has been taking one nap for awhile now, should I just try pushing nap back a little until it's a long pm nap? I've read it's best to have 2 naps for as long as she can (18 mos?), so my first reaction is to shorten am nap.

Hi there I'm going to get someone to move this to toddler sleep as she's 1 now :)
Sorry if I'm misunderstanding but is she currently on 1 nap but you want to move her back to 2? X

Around 10mo's, her naps started to get a little weird (am nap 1-1.5 hrs, pm nap 30-45mins). Around 11mo's, it got pretty consistent to only am nap for 2 hrs (7am A, 11am-1pm S, refuse afternoon nap, 7pm bedtime). I didn't know until know after reading a few posts that shortening am nap could help get a pm nap in before bedtime. So yes, for about a few weeks, I'd let her sleep as long as she wanted for am nap, and no pm nap. After reading the posts, I started to question our schedule and just today, I woke her at 1 hr for am nap, and she is now asleep for pm nap. She cried, or more like wailed when I put her down for pm nap, but she is still sleeping (30mins into her nap now).

Is that wrong? Should I have just kept to my original schedule? Or push the 11am nap later?

I feel that as soon as I start to get a hang of this, that I'm doing this wrong all along... :(... first-time mom (and SAHM) obviously!!! This is for sure the toughest job ever!

My daughter went to 1 nap at 9mo ::), I decided to embrace it as she was such a good sleeper at night (7pm-7.30am).

I moved her lunch to 11.30am then would put her down for a nap at 12pm and let her sleep as long as she wanted - normally till 3-3.15pm. It was fantastic I got so much done and even with a little quiet time to spare. As she got older I moved her lunch to 12pm and nap at 12.30 - but still normally a 3hr nap (I did cap it at 3.30 though so she would go to bed ok).

I would be tempted to embrace the 1 nap as at 12mo by the time you have tried to figure/fight (!) the 2 naps she will definitely be moving to 1.

Good luck!

Hi there, when they're headed towards the 2-1 a short AM (like 30 mins) can help them get a decent PM and tide them over to bedtime. How's she getting on now? x

Kinda all over the place... We had her 12 mo dr appt yesterday that was filled w/ immunization shots. She handled the shots quite well but was fussy later in the day.
