14 month old keeps waking up late evening and early morning
« on: October 28, 2011, 05:25:32 am »
Hi all! So this is my third child and I still am at a loss ::).
He naps 2xday usually. Around 11am-12.30am and then another hour around 3.30/4pm.
He goes to bed no problemo at 7.
Then he wakes up around 9.30, 10, 11, 11.30 and goes through the night till 6, then 6.30, then 7.

I can't seem to get him to 1 nap, but that's also because of these wakings, he doesn't make it till passed 11am.

Any ideas?

Hi Hester :)

I'd definately try the 1 nap. This looks like a too short A-time to bed and therefore UT wakings.

DS has often started his 1 nap at 11am a few months ago (he was on 1 nap since around his 1th birthday) and now he's napping from 11.30am-ish. We let him sleep as long as he likes but never past 2pm to preserve a decent A-time to bed. He sleeps from 7pm-6am.

Give it a try! Good luck!

Good luck and please post back!  :-*

Just keep in mind that it's ok to do a super-early bedtime while you're transitioning to 1 nap.
His bodyclock needs to adjust.
Let's say he naps from 11am-1pm (which is a pretty decent length), then I'd suggest a BT 5H after wake-up, so 6pm.
This will prevent him from getting OT and, over the course of the next weeks, you can gradually increase A-times with 15mins here and there to get back to your usual BT.
I think Silas had about 2-3 weeks of a 6PM-ish bedtime when we just transitioned.

Oh SOPHIE! I only now see it's you, haha, you changed your name! Well, he went to bed at 1.15 pm, since he did super well and was up late this morning. (He was up at 6, I gave him his milk and then he went back to bed till 8.30) but now I am not sure what to do. I think I'll treat this morning as a bit of a nap as well, so maybe if he's not up at 2.30, I'll get him up, so he can go to bed at 7.30. Makes sense?

We have daylights saving next week I believe. I would be scared too!
Ok, so yesterday I went in at 3 (I forgot about the time OOPS) and woke him up. He played happily and went to bed around 7.30 pm and NO PEEP till 6.30am this morning. He was not happy thoug, so we tucked him back in with his puppy and he slept till 8!

I guess I have a one nap a day kid now!

Thanks a bunch, isn't it silly how you can't figure it out when you're in it?

Oh, that's just fantastic!!! :)

And yes, I have totally BTDT, when you can't see the forest through the trees. Mind you, some baby-personalities make it extra tricky because they will just comply to any routine offered!
Silas was on 1 nap since early August, and when we went on holiday end of August, we let him nap twice a day some days to work around the later dinner times (Spain) and it worked a treat too.
That can be confusing.

But yay for your 1 nap-toddler!
