nap in the dark room?
« on: October 28, 2011, 13:35:39 pm »
Hi All!

Maybe it's a stupid question but I would like to know if my daughter should nap in a dark room or not. The midwife said she should nap with the blinds open so she can make a difference between night and day but it seems like she has a hard time to fall asleep when the room is not dark and when she is already sleeping she wakes up when I open the blinds or switch on the lights.
During feeding and activity I keep her in the living room which is really sunny.
In the same time I was wondering maybe she can't sleep in the pram when we go for a walk because of the same reason (it's not dark enough).

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Gyorgyi

My DD has always napped in a darkened room and still does. My MIL wasn't convinced by it at all and there's been a few times when she is looking after DD that she has only short-napped because she didn't darken the room before putting her down. I know the dark room definitely helps my DD to fall asleep quicker and get through those 45 min sleep cycle transitions.

All that said, I don't think there is a right or wrong way, just what is best for your LO. My friend's DD always napped in a light room. As for napping on the go in the buggy, have you tried a snoozeshade?

HTH: :)

Totally agree with Nicola...Until Z was 6 weeks he would sleep anywhere, but after this he 'woke' up and really needed to have a quiet dim place to nap. I think a lot depends on your LOs nature/personality and the options available to you/your LO ie if it is your second and you need to get out and about for some naps then your LO will have to adjust to some naps on the go in light with noise IYKWIM?

Good luck :)
