Some babies start taking less and less at the DF, some don't show any signs of dropping it so it is actively weaned around 7/8 months when solids are better established. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=54662.0 this link should help.

How much milk is he taking during the day? Can you increase that amount a bit?

For us we weaned the DF at 5.5months because DD was taking less and less at the morning 7am feed.
DD1 (1/09)
DD2 (10/11)
DD3 (3/15)
