Bottle vs cup- 10 mo old
« on: November 02, 2011, 22:46:39 pm »
My 10 mo DD has been drinking about 4 6-8 oz bottles a day but she hasn't been eating heaps of solids. My feeling has been when she starts eating more she will naturally start drinking less but this hasn't necessarily been the case (though the amount she eats fluctuates on a weekly basis, sometimes she eats lots and other times she basically refuses the spoon). I have been thinking about switching her to 3 bottles a day or giving her milk from a cup instead of a bottle for all feeds except bedtime, which I feel would reduce her milk intake. How much milk should she still be getting at this age and when should I offer the bottle/cup? Suggestions?

I wouldn't cut down milk too much yet.  Maybe make one feed from a cup and see how she gets on?  At 10 months most babies are on 3-4 bottles/proper milk feeds a day and she still needs to be getting the most of her calories from her milk.

agree with shiv (nice new ticker for M btw ;) just need a new one for R now!)

Does she ever have any juice or water from a cup? Or you could try and bottle to cup trainer system like this:

I think DS switched to trainer cups with a valve and spout full time at about a year. And had bottles morning and night with trainer/beaker cups in the day. I knew it was time to drop to 2 when he started refusing the middle of the day milk. Just was not interested all of a sudden, about 10.5 months I think.
