Burping? When to stop?
« on: November 28, 2011, 18:40:37 pm »
Ok... my DS is 4.5 months and has always screeched at burping times. He is FF drinking 8+ oz per bottle. DH said I should try not burping him at all and see what happens... So this weekend I tried once, had a HUGE beltch at the end and a bit of spit-up but no more than usual for LO.

Thoughts? Is this bad for LO belly?

Do you mean burping during a feed? If so and he doesn't like being stopped mid feed then just let him stop when he is ready. I have 2 refluxers and if they got interrupted mid-feed that was it for the rest of the bottle so I just stopped doing it! There's no rules that say they have to be burped during a feed and when they are sitting up and moving around more they get pretty good at burping themselves!

Follow his cues - he'll be fine!

I have never burped my DD mid-feed - she got really mad when I did try :)

The only thing I would suggest is to rub not pat - might help bring up the bubbles without the spit up :)

E is a refluxer too... we have found similar results.. screaching if you take bottle away to burp. We always rub not pat. Spit up seems to have increased alot over the last few days... hoping it just a phase! Tx girls
