How easy/hard is it to overfeed?

Just wondering?  DD is 6 weeks and she is having a noticeable growth spurt as far as intake goes.  However, for most feeds (even when not having a growth spurt) she will take about half a bottle (2oz) and then not want any more.  In order to get her to take the other 2 oz I have to lay her flat on the floor and she'll usually take the rest.  The last couple of days I've had to make more formula when she finishes and last night she threw it ALL up.  I'm wondering if I'm making her take in more than she would other wise by laying her flat?

How much does she weigh?

My DD was an average baby (50th centile weight and 25th for height) and she was taking about 4 ozs every 3 hours at a month old.  She was just under 10 lbs at her one month check.

As for the throwing up - I suspect that is normal - growth spurts make them take in more than they are accustomed too and can cause a bit of an overfill ;)  I would offer what she will take though - she likely isn't spewing as much as you suspect ;)

she usually takes the same, 4oz every 3 hrs.

Do you try burping well after the first 2oz? I would advise against lying her flat to drink too, it's a choking hazard to drink in this position and I believe it can potentially cause ear infections. Have you got a bouncy chair for her, or prop her up on a feeding pillow.

The other thing to think about is that babies aren't always going to be the same amount hungry at every feed, so she may only need 2oz at some feeds whereas she needs bigger feeds at other feeds.

What's her behaviour like when she feeds? How is she after the first 2oz?

thanks lolly,
she is just happy feeding and just not interested after a couple ounces.  Also I will make sure to use a pillow from now on because ear infections are not on my list of things to do.
