New baby 2nd child question about pumping
« on: December 02, 2011, 07:25:17 am »
Well we have a new DD just 1.5 weeks old. Very diffrent from our 1st DD who was angel baby. Having difficulties burping, seems very gasy. Once can get all burps spit ups done will sleep ok but can be a 3 hour struggle to get it out. SO have been considering pumping so able to give bottle to see if would be less gasy. Also having some difficulty with first DD who is 3.5 old. She is being a very good big sister but has been showing signs that she feels mommy has a new baby and replaced her or doesn't love her the same. Have had a csect also so has added to strain because of recovery. SO my thought was that if I pump and allowed my hubby and or friends to feed baby I could get more time to do some of the things I used to do with DD 1 with out having to be feeding. I am not sure how to get started pumping while feeding? Do I pump after each feed to build up a supply or do I add a new feed time?
Thanks Tracy

You do whichever works for you. I'd pump in the morning when supply is at its highest and then pump any time LO is fed with a bottle of EBM. If you start this now and want to keep it up, your supply should regulate to include this extra milk :)

I found I always got the most milk when I pumped midway between my first two feeds.  When I did it consistently at this time, my body seemed to produce for this feed like it would for any other.  Other ladies have more luck at night -- or if she's a one sided feeder, you can pump from one side while she feeds from the other.  It seems like mom have very different experiences with pumping, so I might try and experiment and find what works best for you.  It is recommended that you wait a few more weeks to introduce the bottle in order to avoid nipple confusion, if you can hang on that long!

I've also been one to produce most in the morning so have always pumped after the first feed.  Managed to build up a nice supply!  It's great to start now while you're just getting BFing established.

And congrats on your LO!!

Thanks for the info. I have been taking note of when fuller and when baby not eating as much that might be good time. I am thinking AM good time as well as late night as she sometimes only feeds off 1 side at dream feed and hard to get to feed off the other then by the time next feed comes I am supper full.
Now I just need to find a location here in the area that carries milk storage bags. Have not had much luck may need to order on line. The joy of being posted to a country you are not fluent in the language. IF anyanyone is in  Geilenkirchen Germany or knows where in the area I can buy would appriciate any info.
Thanks
