I have never posted on any site before although I read but I am desperate for advice. Is anyone has been through this before I would appreciate the help. Here is the background. Sorry for the length.
Last Tuesday I put my 22 month old down for his nap. He sleeps in a crib with a crib tent. He normally sits and plays before falling asleep after ten minutes but this day he stood. He was quiet for a while and then started fussing. I did not go get him and he fussed for 35 min before he stopped whining and started talking while standing. I waited 1.5 hours before collecting him and he never sat or went to sleep. When I got up to his room I discovered he had a poop. He had just had one before I put him down so it did not occur to me that he might have immediately had another. He went to bed normally that night. On Wed he did the exact same thing at nap. And when we collected him, he had a poop he did go to sleep normally that night. Thursday he stood for all of nap and no poop when we went in and then he stood when we put him to bed that night. He was standing for hours. He would fall asleep standing and then head jerk and wake up. I do not know when he finally stretched out but I gave up and went to bed at 11 and he was still up. On Friday he stood at nap for half an hour and then stretched out and napped for an hour. But at bed again that night, he stood for hours. Same thing on Sat and Sun - no nap and standing for hours. On Monday I gave up on putting him down for nap since he was winning the battle on the thought that he has figured he can outlast me and thought it would be best to focus on getting him down at night. Soon Monday I drove him in the car. He fell asleep within two blocks of my house and slept for 40 minutes. Monday night it seemed we had made progress, he only stood for an hour and fifteen minutes before stretching out. So on Tuesday I again drove him in the car. This time he fell asleep on the way out and back for 30 min and 45 min. Then against bedtime he did not go down. When I went to bed at 10:30 last night he was standing and talking.
He has always been a good overnight sleeper. Until this started he was going to bed at 8 and waking up close to 8 and taking one nap of 1.5 to 2 hours. I was hoping that maybe all of this started because of the excitement of Christmas but now Christmas is over. He is on the back end of a cold so I was concerned he had an ear infection but I went to the dr on Friday and she said he was fine. He is so exhausted in the day that he is almost unmanageable. He just cries and says no to everything. I don't know what to do to make my baby get the sleep he needs. I guess that is the problem. I cannot make him. Has anyone else had a child that has done this or have any thoughts.
