« on: January 04, 2012, 01:05:04 am »
Hello

my son in 8 months old. i am struggling with his sleep. I am hoping that I can change it before I loose my mind!!!!

This is his day.

6:00 - wake up
7:00 - first solid meal (cereal and fruit)
7:30 - 9:00- activity
9:00 - nap (story then rocked until almost asleep)
10:00 - rarely sleeps an hour, however have been going in and rocking back to sleep
11:30 - lunch (veggie, meat, fruit)
1:00 - nap (story and bottle)
2:00 - working on making naptime longer with rocking into another REM cycle
3:00 - snack and bottle
3 - 5 - activity
5:00 - dinner (cereal, fruit and veggie)
6:00 - bath story
6:30 - bottle and bed

the trouble begins at night. he is up at 11 and 4am. both times he is very wet and expects a feeding in order to get back to sleep.

how do i elimate these nighttime wakings

Hi there, it could well be that the rocking back to sleep has become a bit of a prop. So when DS wakes in the night he expects that help to get back to sleep. Have you tried resettling with shush/pat or PU/PD?

Hi
I think you are right.  This week I have started eliminated giving bottles and rocking to sleep. I put him in the crib now after a story. He is usually alright if I stay in the room and do the shh shh. He usually needs me to keep my hand on him while he falls asleep. Is that considered a prop?

Thanks.

That sounds great progress already. What you are doing is just a variation of shush/pat, so no not a prop but a way of sleep training. You could just gradually reduce the amount of time that you have your hand on him and less pressure, so just lightly touching your DS instead. Eventually he won't need Mama there at all!  :)
