Ready for 3-2 nap??
« on: January 13, 2012, 23:17:41 pm »
Hi, my lo is 5.5 months old, this is her schedule on an ideal day,

W: 7am
E: 7:15 ish
A: 7:30-9
S: 9-10:30
E: 10:45 or 11, I try to extend the feeding so she's eating every 4 hours
A: so activity would be from 10:30 to 12:30 with her eating around 11
S: 12:30-1:30
E: 2:00 she's not leaping enough to extend her eating till 3
A: from 1:30 3:30
S: 3:30 - 4:30
A: 4:30-6:30 in here I will give her veges or fruit and a bath around 6
Bottle at 6:30 and soon after bed by 7

So I'm thinking she is ready to switch to 2 naps a day by extending her A time. She's starting to wake up right before the DF and wake up around 3 or 4 for her sucky. I have no problem getting her back to sleep but she used to sleep so good. My problem is that if she goes to 2 naps a day, the afternoon nap will collide with picking my oldest up from school at 3. I have tried a few times with the 2 naps and woke her up at 3 but by 6 she is so tired that she is out by 6:30. And she also woke up a lot that night. Plus it seems she's teething so after an journey and half of A time, she is cranky. Or should I keep her on this schedule for a bit longer?? Any tips would be great :)

Yes, i agree, 2 naps are more appriopriate for her age.  At 5 months she can handle more A times and should be on a solid 4h EASY.  this way she will eat more efficiently as well and have longer naps  ;)

Sometimes we have to fit LOs routine around the rest of the family as best we can.
I had a similar but different issue when cutting the CN meaning DS couldn't have a nap between 2.30 and 4pm.  What I did was push out the morning A time (gently but up to a pretty long one) then the second nap of the day was capped or skipped and we aimed for the 4pm nap.  You might be able to work towards something similar giving a shorter pm nap then a longer nap after the school run...then dropping the middle nap.  It's not the 'right' way but it did eventually work for us.
There might also be some tips for school runs over in the twos board
