Is she ready to drop the catnap?
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:54:18 am »
My DD is 6.5 months and still taking 3 naps a day.  I keep wondering whether to drop the catnap.  Her night sleep is pretty bad (working on some prop issues there though which might be the problem) and it seems it is actually better sometimes when she has less than perfect day sleep which makes me wonder if she is sleeping too much during the day. The only thing is, I don't think she is ready for 3 hours A time.  She acts tired after 2.5 hours.  So I'm not sure what to think...  What do you think?  Here is our easy:

7:00 Wake up, Eat
9:30-11:00 Sleep
11:00 Eat (12:00 Solids)
1:30-3:00 Sleep
3:00 Eat (4:00 Solids)
5:15ish-5:50/6:00ish Sleep
7:00 Eat, Bedtime Routine
7:30 Asleep

I think you could push to drop that CN. If you can get that middle A time after the morning nap up to 3hrs (gently push it out 10-15mins every 3 days) and bring BT forward to 7pm then you will have made it :)

What do you think?

Thank you SOOO much for the response!

I think that might be good for her.  It scares me though because we dealt with chronic 45 minute naps for a very LONG time and she is doing better now and I don't want to ruin anything!  Is it normal to have to push to drop it?

If I just extended that middle A time to 3 hours, she would have 3.5 until BT, even moving it back to 7pm.  Wouldn't I have to extend the morning A time to 3 hours as well?  Also, while we're doing the extending, do we keep the CN?  And how do feeds work with all of this?  Thanks so much!

I know, same here ::) after a month or so of perfect sleep I then had to tweak tweak tweak...it never stops really :-\

I would watch her, she may last 3hrs okay on her own, if she isnt a touchy or spirited baby she could just cope okay with the jump :) If she is touchy with sleep then maybe gently push it out.

Your day will get a little long until the CN is gone, or short if you do EBT but thats okay...it comes right :-*
