Wide awake for 3 hours at midnight
« on: February 01, 2012, 00:49:55 am »
Is there a general reason for this in an 8 month old who previously slept through and is most likely going through the 8 month regression? Their sleep regressed after being really really sick for a week but now the perfect napper only naps twice for 45 minutes and is HARD WORK to get to sleep (unlike before) and their 12 hour nights have disappeared and they wake up to feed and also for 3 hours at least really wired and not able to sleep at all - even chatting (although not overly happy) They are on a good EASY....well, until recently!!!!!

Any thoughts would be wonderful for me to pass on

Thanks lovely ladies

could be a routine tweak is needed..UT/OT stuff, but for such a long time I would think maybe teething is causing a bit of discomfort and keeping the LO up...has the mum/dad tried to medicate at the NW to see if this makes a difference?

The other thing you could try is W2S at 11 to break the cycle if its become a habit...though 3 hrs is a loooonnnng time to be awake and not that unhappy about it.

I 'think' there is a WW around this age...could be developmental if its only been going on a few days? Is the LO usually affected developmentally like this?

hey - hmm, no I think they are usually pretty straight forward - ie, 3 days for teething then back to sleeping through, they are medicated at night still in case thats it and they do seem to be going through a big couple of changes.....

there is definitely some nap resistance in there (used to self settle off to sleep in minutes - now its more like 4o mins) and only down for 45mins 2x a day.

really feeling for the mum - can you imagine being up awake for that long in the middle of the night!? its one thing comforting and settling - quite another when they wont even act tired!!

I did wonder about the ut/ot thing.....but they are already awake for around 3 hours and have extremely clear tired signals....

soo confusing!

Maybe they need closer to 3.5 hours? How long are they in bed ie if they go to bed at 6 and mum has them in bed till 8am then the NW cold be related to that....nights just too long so they wake up i nthe middle of it ready to play??? - its an od one. We only get looonnng NW when in discomfort or WW.
