Introducing a lovey to replace paci?
« on: January 30, 2012, 22:35:13 pm »
DD is 14.5 months and has a mild paci habit... it remains in her crib at all times and she uses it intermittently when sleeping...

She hasn't got a lovey and I was thinking of introducing one at the time that we ditch the paci... anyone done this successfully?

Hi Kara :)

DS already had his lovey when we ditched the dummy, so no real experince, but I would certainly suggest that having something else as a 'comfort' would be a great idea.

By the way, ditching the dummy went really well for us so hopefully it will be an easy transition for you too :)

We ditched the dummy cold turkey around this age (were away down south for a week and when came back just didn't give it to him - explained it would happen) - and after 1 bedtime (arrived home in time for bed) of needing me there, and bit of time with him at nap next day, that was that.  Didn't need a lovey or anything :)
L x Having a bw break from 1 Feb 2012 - if you want to get in touch please send me a pm.  I may not be here but you are all in my thoughts xxxx (probably be back some time)

still happily married, just not counting!

Hey Hun, haven't weaned the paci, but if your LO particularly likes a soft toy or blankie you could start putting that in the cot with her. Z has always had a lovey and paci, just a month ago he took to this stuffed cow ::) it is now also in his cot with him...he chose this himself and loves it to bits since we let him have it in his cot. I guess what I am trying to say is it is certainly possible to introduce loveys at this age.but your LO may need to choose it herself with a bit of 'encouragement' from you. kwIm?

Gotcha!  She has a bit of a love for her stuffed dog... mostly cause she likes to "woof" at it ::)  Maybe I will encourage that one!  He is a good size for a lovey - not too big!
