Help with 4-7 am for 9 week old
« on: January 29, 2012, 21:22:28 pm »
My 9wo is a week into the 3hr EASY program but I'm unsure how tohandle the early early mornings. Last night he slept from 7-10:15, dream feed, slept 10:30-1:25, feed, then slept until 3:40(shush 1x, slept until 4). Problem is he always wakes at 5 not necessarily hungry I don't think, then I can get him back down with shushing until 6 when he wakes up next, then with sushing until 7. All of that can be a battle. I then have to wake him at 7 to start his day.

What should I be doing to help with my 4-7 stretch? Should I be starting his day later (7:30?) if I have to wake him up every day?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm having a very similar issue and my LO is 7 weeks old.  Although I don't have to wake him because I can only get him back to sleep until about 6:30.  The advice I got today was that 'maybe' he is ready to increase his A time during the day. But I haven't been able to apply it yet and it might be a little more complicated than that since my DS has reflux issues as well.

Can you post your routine so we can see if a tweak is needed?

Thanks for the response! We are still trying to work out a schedule since today it seems like he wanted to increase his awake times too. I only put him to sleep when he shows his first cues. If he's up for 55 mins or 2 hours, so be it. Here is what yesterday looked like:

EA 7:10 (had to wake up)
S 8:45

EA 10
S 11:15

EA 12:15
S 2

EA 4:30
S 5:05

EA 5:45 (catnap as per book)
S 7:05

DF 10:15
S 10:30-1
S 1:25-4 (put shush recording on at 3:40, right back to sleep)
S 4:10-5:10 (diaper change, feed, shush for 15 mins at 6, back to sleep)
S 6:15-7 (started wake up at 7)

Here is what today looked like:

EA 7:15 (started gentle wake up at 7)
S 8:50-10:50 (increased nap time since I had to wake him the past few day at 1.5hr naps)

EA 10:50
S 12:25-1:30

EA 1:30
S 2:35

EA 3:35-4 (should have stayed asleep from last nap but couldnt get him down. Put him down when he cued us)
S 4

EA 6 (wake from nap, bed routine)
S 7:15 (smiles, no crying, out in less than 2 mins. Yay!)

Will DF at 10/10:30

I don't have much advice to give as I'm no expert... it does sound funny that his A times vary so much but if he naps well after, I guess it makes sense.

Hopefully someone else with pitch in with advice! :)

I was able to put the shush track on twice and get him from 5 to 7 without difficulty. Hopefully it's a habitual wake that I get teach him to sleep through. Just hope he is eating enough at night to make that happen.

Sounds like you are listening to his cues well during the day and maybe you're on to something with the white noise.  Keep us posted.
