Dropping a BF?
« on: February 28, 2012, 03:28:36 am »
hi ladies - I can't remember when it's a good time to drop one of the daytime BF.  My son is about 10 mths and nurses 4x a day and on a bad night 1 or 2x (he doesn't STTN).  He loves to eat solids and is quite a heafty boy.

Which feeding goes first?  I think my pregnancy with him erased my memory!!

DS is around the same age, he's on 4 feeds a day and no NF's... I think he's nearly there with dropping the afternoon feed, so that'd leave wake-up, mid-morning and bedtime feeds.

I'd be a bit wary of dropping a daytime feed if he's still having night feeds though - I'd be keeping as many calories in the day as possible and trying to cut the night feeds.

We're 9 months and on 4 feeds a day and mostly 3 solids and occasionally drop the afternoon feed. I agree with bec's thought on dropping the night feeds. Although- he probably doesn't need them, so you could try both at once perhaps?

Someone said when i asked this question before that apparrently the WHO reccommendation is for 4 BF a day till 1... but i think it's common to be down to 3...

This is dead on - one of the daytime ones (mid-morning or mid-afternoon) is generally the first to go.

Thanks ladies - he's been waking at night and I feed him (maybe more out of my own laziness than his need for food - but he doesn't resettle easily these days).  I won't cut a daytime feed until we're STTN consistently.  It better be soon!!!
