Yikes! What happened last night?
« on: April 30, 2012, 12:30:42 pm »
Last night around 10:30pm our son, almost 8 months, was restless in his crib.  No crying or fussing, just restless, for about 30-40min. Ver unlike him.  My husband went in to see if he needed to burp or was hot, picked him up in the dark and patted his back for 1-2 mins and then put him back down.   He did give a little burp.

After that, from 11pm until almost 1am he laid in his crib and talked and talked and talked!  Very happily.  Zero fussiness.  He even sat up and looked around once or twice.  We didn't go into his room because he wasn't in distress.  But it went on for almost 2 hours!  He finally went back to sleep and we had to wake him this morning at 7:15, a little later than his normal wakeup time.

We did see some dried spit up in the crib this morning, which may have caused his original restlessness before my husband went into him.  He's not hot and seems totally fine this morning.  Had no problems finishing his bottle.

Just wondering if this was a one time thing, or also wondering if A times need to be increased since he was Soooooo awake last night.  It has never happened before.

He's now at 3hrs of A time before his 1st and 2nd nap, and almost 4 hrs of A time before bed time.  His naps are 1hr10min-1 hr 30 min each, and he's STTN between 11hr15min-12 hrs.

Thanks for any insights.  I had read a post before about middle of the night crib parties meaning an increase in A times.

Hi there, yes usually happy NW crib parties mean UT and that an increase in A time is needed. But I would wait and see if it happens again seeing as it has only been once. If it does keep happening then you could just add 10 or 15 mins on and see if that helps.

Hi there!  We're thinking it may have been illness related.  Although, he was "happy restless," in his crib, the next day, yesterday, he was quite fussy and ran a fever of 102.  He also didn't hold down his dinner, it all came up. His naps were restless and shorter too yesterday.  I gave him baby advil and he slept 12.5 hours last night without a peep. His temp is a bit elevated today, at 100.5, but I haven't given him anything for it yet.  He's sleeping right now.  He ate his bottle and breakfast with no problems, and is in a happy mood.

Could this have been it, even though he wasn't fussy during his crib party?

Yes, it could definitely be it. Lots of LOs have NWs that are due to discomfort/uneasiness without actually fussing or crying. He was uncomfortable enough not to sleep, but not in a screaming type pain.  Hope he feels better soon and that long NW was a one time deal.

Thank you!  Last two nights have been fine.  He did have a slight fever yesterday and we gave him a reduced dose of ibuprofen at bed time.  He slept through.  Hopefully no more NW.
