Does this sound ok?
« on: April 11, 2012, 14:51:01 pm »
I feel ridiculous admitting that my 9 month old still has a DF, but he does.

He is eating 3 meals a day, with protein.  He drinks 4, 7 ounce bottles during the day, 7, 11, 3, 7.  Up until about 5 weeks ago, he was also waking at 3am for a feeding - but I went in and did PD and he stopped waking for the most part at that time.  I go in at 1130pm and give him a DF - it had been 8ounces but I've been slowly decreasing the amount in it, we are at 5ounces - he sucks it down, but does roll over and go back to sleep (he is sort of awake, sometimes very much awake).  I plan to continue to decrease the amount every few days until there is 2 ounces left at which point it would be ridiculous to offer it.  If he begins to wake at this time, I'll do PD.

Does this sound ok?   If he truly needs this bottle at this time, how will I know it - opposed to it being a habitual waking at that time?

Thanks, Zoey

Have a look at this link, it details how to drop the DF by reducing oz and by moving it forward so it gets closer to bedtime which helps with the dropping process. By moving it forward they aren't as hungry because of the bedtime feed but it also helps to break the habit of feeding at that particular time. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=54662.0

At 9 months if he is having 4 good bottles and eating well during the day he doesn't need the DF or a nightfeed calorie wise. We dropped my DD's nightfeed at 8.5 months, she didn't have a dreamfeed and was only on 3 bottles by then but eating ok. The minimum amount they need with solids from 6 months is 20oz so if he is having more than that he is getting what he needs!
