nursing bra?
« on: May 03, 2012, 04:57:53 am »
Ok- so i'm down to 3 feeds in the day with my 11 month old. I've started a new gym program and need to get a sports bra or 2.. Can i get one with underwire at this point? I'm an underwire fan, but don't want it to cause problems  :-\ ?

Oooh, good question!  I'd be tempted not to, simply because of the pressures that underwires put on various parts of the breast.  Last thing you'd want would be an underwired bra and mastitis :-\ :-*

:( I thought you'd say that... I did buy one tonight... but i'll instead double bra it for a bit longer... You're right- id hate to get this far with no major issues just to stuff myself up! So- would you say i should wait to wear wires again till i've totally weaned? Even if i'm down to one feed a day?

I wear an underwire nursing bra (and did with DS1 - BF 13 months), and have never had a problem.  I am larger up top, and cannot get away without one.  If you are concerned, maybe just use it for work outs or just part of the day.  I know if a bra is going to pose a problem within a few hours of wearing it.

Sorry :-[
Always hate to the the bearer of doom! ;)

Actually, having read back, I think I've gone a bit bonkers!  If it's a sports bra (ours here are usually unwired anyway?) for use for an hour or so at a time, it probably isn't going to make a massive difference (I've worn a wired bra a couple of times for evenings out).  Just try to steer clear the rest of the time. :)

yeah- sports bra- I looked tonight and found it hard to get one in my size without wires- cool! I'm happy enough at other times without wires- for the moment... i will LOVE to go back to them later on though!

I'm going to have to get completely new bras when I stop as my old ones no longer fit :-\  When I have worn one on a night out, I could've got a chicken breast in there with me :-[

well you won't go hungry! Handy if you are going to one of those under-catered cocktail affairs!

Chance would be a fine thing!  More like a curry or a pub trip.  I can dream, though, yes? :D

Oh my god! So i am wearing an underwire sports bra for the first time in ages- AMAZING!! THe girls are actually coming close to PERKY!! (close... ). Well a benefit of weaning will definitely be getting back into wires full time! Not overly practical as i have to take my bra OFF to feed ::)

Just wondering what is the problem with a wire bra? I wore them for 12 months of nursing with ds and didn't have a problem. Should I be concerned this time with dd? Ugh I'd rather not shell out for new bras!

Just if the wire restricts flow near any milk ducts or bruises the breast anywhere - can lead to clogged ducts/mastitis...

I think that also as you go through pregnancy and the early days that the size of your breasts can change, and so your bra may not be big enough, and you wouldn't always know...
