4weeks old forgot how to latch
« on: May 19, 2012, 20:48:56 pm »
Hey ladies
DD2 is now 4wo and has been a good feeder since birth.
For the past 2 or 3 days it seems like she has forgoten how to latch on properly!!
I'm not doing anything different, but I hear the click noise :/ It means she's swallowing a lot of air, which is not good for a baby who is already gassy...

any hints on how I can "teach" her to latch on again?

There are some great articles linked from here http://kellymom.com/ages/newborn/bf-basics/latch-resources/  You could give the "deep latch technique" a go, or biological nurturing.

Make sure you're giving her enough time to open her mouth nice and wide before she goes on.  Nose to nipple (I always found DD needed to be a bit further down so that she would tip her head back a bit to get a wider gape).

I always had luck pointing my nipple towards the roof of their mouths, seemed to get he asymmetrical latch better.

Thanks ladies. I find hard to folllow the instructions since my aureola and nipple r so small. But things seem to b better. Its hard to take the time with a toddler needing attention all the time...
