habitual waking for dreamfeed
« on: May 28, 2012, 08:24:43 am »
apologies,i think there is a thread on this somewhere, but i cant find it!

my 19wk old wakes around the 10.30pm mark,(just stirring, not crying or anything) which is when we do the dreamfeed. it's not causing a problem at the moment because she settles back down easily after the feed, but i'm worried that it may cause an issue in the future,we have been doing the df for months now, v successfully.she doesnt feed again till 7.30am.am i worrying unnecessarily?

I'd say so, if you are consistently getting 10.30-7.30 then I think you are doing really well!

I'm guessing her body is just getting used to the feed times. If she goes back to sleep afterwards easily then I'm guessing this will be the feed she decides to drop whenever it is that she is ready.

She'll likely sleep through. We were on two feeds a night for ages, then one per night until about ten months.

Sounds like you're doing great!

You can try to do the DF a little earlier, like 10pm and then varying the time a bit each night to get her out of the habit of waking for it at the same time every night.  On the other hand, sounds like she's sleeping great so I wouldn't worry about it.  She will eventually prefer to just sleep through rather than feed as she gets older and will stop waking for it. Just one night feed at that age is fantastic!

We dropped the df around 7/8 months with dd1 and closer to 10 months with ds.  Some people will drop it when they start having trouble with the first feed of the day, other people try when they are well-established on solids.  If she eventually starts nursing less at other times during the day, you could also try dropping it so she nurses better during the day.

Yes, that probably will help him take more at the df.
